Materials Editor

Reading time

The materials editor allows you to create, edit and delete materials in previously selected database. To open the materials editor, navigate to References | Editor of Substances and Materials.

If there is no open project, the user material database opens. If there is an open project - the project database opens.

All material parameters are grouped into three tabs.

Materials Editor

Aggregate State - currently, this parameter does not affect the fire dynamics simulation.

Molar mass - typically, the fire load is a complex mixture of substances for which it is very difficult to determine the molar mass. Therefore, as a rule, a value of either 87 g/mol (wood, fabrics) or 104 g/mol (plastic, rubber) is taken.

Materials Editor

Linear Flame Spread Speed. If the flame spread speed is zero, then the fire occurs immediately over the entire area of the fire source. For details, see Fire Source. If the flame spread speed is different from zero, the flame spreads in a circular pattern from the center of the fire source.

Substance and Materials Editor

Color - objects for which the material is defined are displayed in the color specified for the material.

Description - a detailed description of the material.

Data sources - the sources from which the material parameter values are obtained.

Creating new material

To create a new material, do the following:

  1. Select a material that you want to take as a basis from the list.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Specify the name of the new material.
  4. Specify the values of the desired material parameters in the form fields.
  5. Click Apply.

A new material with specified parameters is created in the project.

Editing material

To edit a material, do the following:

  1. Select the material you want to change from the list.
  2. Change the values of the desired parameters.
  3. Click Apply.

The new parameter values of the selected material are saved in the previously selected database.

Deleting material

To delete a material, do the following:

  1. Select the material you want to remove from the list.
  2. Click Delete.

The selected material is removed from the reference database.
