This chapter describes issues related to application maintenance.
Application Installation Folder and Location of Application Files
By default, the application executable file and other files required for running the application are installed in the following folder: C:\Program Files\MST\Fenix+ 3.
User projects are stored by default in the following folder: C:\Users\USERNAME\My Documents.
Sample demo projects are stored in the following folder: C:\ProgramData\Fenix Demonstration Project.
Reference of materials and people groups are stored in the following folder: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\MST\Fenix+ 3\DataBases.
User reports are stored in the following folder: C:\Users\USERNAME\My_documents\Progect_name\Report.
Application documentation is stored in the following folder: C:\Program Files\MST\Fenix+\Manuals.
USB-key drivers are stored in the following folder: C:\Program Files\MST\Fenix+\Drivers.
Application updates are downloaded and stored in the following folder: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\MST\Fenix+ 3\Updates.
User demo projects are stored in the same folders where original projects are located.
You cannot change the location of the sample demo projects, the materials references, and people groups.
Project Directory Structure
When you work on a project, Fenix+ 3 application creates various folders and files in the project directory on your hard drive.
A fully calculated project directory has the following structure:
-
New project is a folder where all project data are stored. The name of the folder corresponds to the name of the project.
-
Backup is a folder where backup project files are stored. Every time the project is saved, a backup project file is created. Its name has the following format: Name_of_project_file_20161122_132200.fnx. That is, the last edited time and date are added to the project file name.
-
Errors is a folder where error report files are stored. Their names have the following format: Error 9777790000007772 20161204 224507.log. The file name includes the USB key number, error detection date and time.
-
Images is a folder where floor background images are stored. For details, see Floor Background Image.
-
Report is a folder in which the finished report and all images created for the report are stored.
-
Results is a folder where evacuation and fire dynamics simulation results are stored. Results are grouped by scenario and stored in separate subfolders the names of which match scenario names (or identifiers). Evacuation and fire simulation results are located in the subdirectories fds and evac.
-
fds is a folder where fire dynamics simulation results are stored.
-
evac is a folder for storing the results of people evacuation simulation.
-
RiskData is a folder in which the calculated fire risk values are stored, as well as the results of the time calculation for rescueing people with limited mobility.
-
New project.fnx is the project file. It has the same name as the project itself. The extension of the project file depends on the application version used to create it. The project file may have the following extensions:
.fnx — project created using Fenix+ 3 Professional or Fenix+ 3 Ultimate;
.fnxd — project created using Fenix+ 3 Demo.
.fnxa — project created using Fenix+ 3 Academy.
-
DataBases - is a folder, in which the project databases are stored. This directory appears only if the Create a copy of the database for each project mode for working with databases is selected. For details, see General Settings.
To eliminate the risk of possible data loss, when you work on a project, it is prohibited to delete, rename, move or edit any files and folders located in the project directory.

Determining Application Version Which Was Used To Create a Project
To determine the application version, which was used to create a project, open this project holding the Ctrl key. As a result, the window with the corresponding information will open.
Updating Application
There are two ways to update Fenix+ 3 application:
- Automatically — if your PC has access to the Internet and the application is configured to check for updates automatically. For more information, see General Settings. In this case, a notification about the availability of an update is displayed in the menu bar of the main application window to the right of the Help option. To update the application, click the corresponding notification and wait until the new application version is downloaded and installed.
- Manually — you must download the latest version of the application manually in the My Products section in your personal account on Developer’s Website. To do this, log in to the website and go to the My Products section. In the Downloads subsection you can download the latest version of the application.
It is recommended to keep the application updated to the latest version.
When updating the application to a new version, you do not need to manually delete the current version.
If you use Fenix Server software package, then before you update Fenix+ 3 application, it is recommended to update Fenix Server. When you cannot update the Fenix Server, then it is recommended to conduct evacuation and fire dynamics simulation only on the local PC, where Fenix+ 3 application is installed.
Every 24 hours, the developer creates a fresh “night build” of the application. This package is available in your personal account for all registered users. It is recommended to install the “night build” of the application only at the specific request of technical support.
To download the latest versions of the application in your personal account, you must be registered on Developer’s Website, and your user profile must be active. If you do not have access to your personal account, please contact the developer for assistance using the following Contact Information.
